Many people are getting into the rc helicopter craze these days. They’re fun and beginner models are designed to be easy to pilot and ready-to-fly out of the box. How do you choose among the top entry level remote control helicopter models? Syma, Team RC, and Align have some good quality models from established companies. Syma is best known for its palm-sized three channel coaxial helicopters. Starting with the S107G design in 2010, they’ve been putting stabilizing gyroscopes into all their models to make them easier to handle. The gyros mean you don’t have to make so many continuous trim adjustments when you’re flying. New pilots love it and every other company has followed suit by adding gyros to their helicopters as well. Team RC has a tiny 5″ model with a gyro, the Team RC Hawk Talon Mini V2, that is a good little flyer. Its smaller size sets it apart from other smaller helis, which are usually 7-12″ long.
What if you want an entry level helicopter, but with some fancier features? If so, you should look at the Align T-REX 100S Super Combo helicopter. It is a four channel vs. three channel heli and the single rotor blade design has a unique stablizer with it to make it about as stable as a coaxial machine. It also comes with two LiPo batteries that mount under the canopy and are easy to change. The radio is a 2.4GHz model and the heli motors are fairly strong, so you can also fly this one outdoors if you’d like. You can also tune the speed by adjusting the swashplate.
